Conversations with my Father

March8

……

Gary Duncan of Flywrite Publishing and Chandler Book Design would like to present to your there latest book, Conversations with my Father.

Along with this bespoke book design, Gary Duncan also had a web site, logo design and an array of marketing material created and produced by Chandler Book Design and Nicky Prentis (Web Designer). Advertising and Marketing material such as postcards, flyers, posters and advanced information sheets are all additional elements that are available to our book and graphic design clients. Here at Chandler Book Design we are all trained Graphic Designers and produce graphic orientated work as well as book design.

Conversations With My Father is a book of discovery, of realising a long- forgotten life, disregarded and shrouded in pain and anger. Part biography, part memoir and part social history, fundamentally, it is concerned with questions.

The events of childhood, of war-time, and of the painful adjustments to Civvy Street, were so long ago, so irrelevant, half-stories and legends lay hidden in an enigmatic black and white portrait. Sixty years later, the same, by now old man, dies reflecting dismissively on a seemingly unadorned life.

Demob and Civvy Street see the beginning of a new adventure-filled life: the struggles just to get by are replaced with the effort of coping with the demands of Cross-Channel ferry traffic and the birth of commercial aviation – British European Airways’ role in the Berlin Airlift and its massive growth into the 1950s. But there is more.

Told with candour and good humour, Conversations With My Father is a story of boyhood dreams, ambitions fulfilled and hopes dashed. It is a real and wonderful true story of how a life deemed worthless may now be celebrated.

Conversations with my father is available at www.flywritepublishing.com or by mail from Flywrite Publishing, Colchester Business Centre, Hawkins Road, Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom, CO2 8JX

Pins
by Christine Todd

Pins is the latest book to be produced by Chandler Book Design. Christine Todd had a clear intention of how she wanted her book to look and John has helped her create that. Both the books author and John Chandler – Creative Director have combined there creative efforts to create a graphic, and visually pleasing cover.

Synopsis by Christine Todd

Molly Makepeace Jamison never expects to dabble in Voodoo. But when she discovers that her husband Bob has been stealing away her advertising agency while cavorting with his mistress of many years, she has good reason to adorn his effigy with a few sharp pins. After all, venting a little righteous anger can’t hurt anyone.

But Molly inadvertently taps into something deep and mysterious, and it produces shocking results. When Detective Jonathan Wilson lands on her doorstep with a list of pointed questions, Molly envisions the inside of a prison cell and the bed-lined wards of mental institutions.

She knows she has to save herself. Yet as her new choices produce more highs and lows than Chicago’s weather, she worries that her Voodoo dalliance has taken on a life of its own…

Pins is a beautifully written jewel of a novel that has us
rooting for naïve protagonist Molly Makepeace Jamison from the get-go …
a great, uplifting read.”

Jerry Cleaver, Immediate Fiction

Pamala Stanton, Screentrade Magazine

The Sun Sharer – Our Latest Release

The First Book in the Sun Sharer Trilogy

This is a tragic story questioning the meaning of love within marriages, affairs, friendships and ultimately with Sun sharers.

Jack Edmunson is a disillusioned businessman in a bad marriage and can’t understand why he has crazy people such as clairvoyants and astrologers telling him he has a path to follow.  He certainly denies the reality of his spirit guide called Nim who acts as his conscience.  This theme starts simply in ‘Sun sharer’ and reaches a crescendo in the final book.

Jack lives in the Costa Brava area of Spain where the book was set and has three children who live in England with his ‘ex’ wives.  Fifty-five years young and twice divorced, he still hopes to meet his Sun Sharer.  He loves a simple lifestyle in the outdoors, focused on what is free and beautiful and decries materialistic people, as modern life can seem obscene when people suffer and die because of the lack of basics.

Jack believes there is someone who will be there to change the unintentional direction in which we are all heading.  That person, although a child now, will be available and ready when needed.

The exciting sequel to ‘The Sun Sharer’ is called ‘A Path Too Long’ and is available in September 2010. The gripping finale ‘Someone Something’ will be published in March 2011.

Bestseller Charlotte Bingham

February17

Charlotte Bingham is an award-winning author whose books have sold millions of copies around the world. A constant fixture in the Bestseller List, Charlotte’s continued success is a testament to her unique storytelling abilities and universal appeal as a writer.

John Chandler of Chandler Book Design was given the honour of offering Charlotte Bingham and her publisher Tim Barlass a beautiful bespoke book design to rival any book among the shelves of bookshops up and down the country.

Charlotte’s hilarious new novel MUMS ON THE RUN is published next month -March 7th – a week ahead of Mother’s Day. MUMS ON THE RUN tells the often hilarious story of two middle-aged women, Pat and Sam, intent on fleeing hearth and home for a blissful, family-free fortnight of drawing and cooking classes – only to end up at leaky old Hartley House. There the ever-resourceful Aunt Biddy is struggling to get her nephew Tom’s life back on track by opening his only asset as an idyllic country retreat. Throw in a Polish butler in a Dad’s Army uniform, a lovelorn artist, and a succession of oddball guests – and the Mums intent on their run certainly get more than the change they had bargained for!

“Charlotte Bingham’s books make me happy, and none
more than Mums on the Run. Her sense of humour is
infectious, her characters richly drawn and her storytelling
compelling. A cheerful and heartwarming read.”
WENDY CRAIG

“A feelgood, put on your dancing shoes kind of a book.”
SIMON WILLIAMS

“Check in at Hartley House for a great read that every
stressed-out mum will empathise with.”
LIZA GODDARD

“A whizz of a read.”

MUMS ON THE RUN IS OUT TO BUY ON MARCH 7TH 2010

..

TIM BARLASS, Founder of ‘Forgotten Titles Ltd‘ has had two books designed by Chandler Book Design, Both of which we are very proud of. Mums on the Run and A Caravan Holiday are both wonderful examples of self-published books, showing what is possible without costing the world.
..
Forgotten Titles pride themselves on finding books that may otherwise never reach the wider audience they deserve. Len Smith’s ‘A Caravan Holiday‘ is the perfect example of this, sadly Len will never see what Tim and John have collaborated to produce.
..
At Forgotten Titles they know how difficult it can be to approach large publishers but if you have a similar work which is gathering dust and which you think could be earning you money then they would like to hear from you.

The Unforgiving Minute

The Unforgiving Minute by Peter Straker is one of the latest books to be designed by Chandler Book Design. Peter’s book as you can see from the accompanying images was an unusual book to design, the design process was no different to any other, it was the outcome or outcomes that surprised us and the printer.

With every book cover design, the client, receives a number of different unique options or ideas, in Peter’s case however he could not decide between two covers, and therefore decided to get both printed. 50 of one and 50 of the other on his initial order.

Below you’ll will find the two designs in their 2D flat dust book jacket form.
